Great Brak River is an unspoilt village between George and Mossel Bay in the heart of the Eden district. Great Brak is surrounded by beautiful mountains covered in fynbos, and the river mouth has beautiful sandy beaches on either side. June to November is whale watching season when the cows and calves may be observed from vantage points on the Great Brak River dunes. Another major attraction is the majestic Wolwedans Dam and the Hydro Electric Power Station. The village was established in 1859 by Charles Searle who opened the shoe factory which is home to the well-known Watson Shoes.
